the options

assalamualaikum

i'll be in 3rd year of chemical engineering next semester and we have to decide our field of specification. The choices are:

1) chemical engineering (general)
2) chemical engineering with fuel technology
3) chemical engineering with with a modern language
4) chemical engineering with chemistry
5) chemical engineering with biotechnology

to be honest, i have no idea at all. i'm interested in fuel, chemical process, food and environment. my heart says, "lets do the fuel technology." i'm so scared by thinking i have to work at 'pelantar minyak' away from my home and my family for months. i'm a family person...

i asked my lecturer, sir zulhafiz about this. i just want to share with my colleagues and i hope this will help you to make up your mind.

hi izzati, i still owe u an ice cream right...so if u going home for summer via london, then i can send u at airport and treat u there ..ok.. orait when come into specialisation, there are few factors that you have to take into consideration

1. your interest,
2. subject offered,
3. performance of the subject (history),
4.future planning,
I personally think interest plays quite important role here. It will keep ur momentum in term study and etc.
For item no 2 & 3, you have to remember, MEng specialise subjects are advanced subject in undergraduate program and it is quite important to know the performance of the subject (who taught, grade distribution etc, reserach group attachment for maybe reseach project etc).
Eventough, I have strong believed that can overcome any types of hurdle infront of you but I am afraid that external factor will jeoperdise ur moral (just imagine if you put a lot of efforts, and you only can get B for that subject even that's is highest grade for that subject, and ur other friend get A in other specialisation). It is a total difference when you guys in first and second years because subjects are quite general.
Future planning is things that u have in ur mind after finish ur undergraduate. I think I am still remembered you want to further PhD straight away, so the undergraduate results are very important factor as well. You should aim to become top of your class (1st class), applying to top research universities, get yourself prestigious scholarships (biasiswa agong, islamic development bank, khazanah, commenwealth etc). But if want to joint industry, maybe fuel technology is one of interesting area to be explored.
Like myself, i have general chemical engineering degree (top 3 in my class) , then Msc Advanced Chemical Engineering with thesis in modelling and simulation for polymerisation process. Now I am attach to Energy Engineering research group investigating the pre heat train fouling of heat exchanger in refinery (so again rojak jugak) eventough my proposed topic (co2 carbon capture in absorption tower) is totally different.
So please do some background study on the program before you have you make ur decision. Please let me know if you have made up ur mind and try to convince me your reason based on my suggestions.
ok take care and congratulations for your 1st semester result.

from that e-mail, i have concluded that someone will send me to the airport and i'll get free ice-cream. hahaha. ok.! he was really helpful and he knows me very well. thank you sir.

i want to make an appointment with my personal tutor to discuss about this matter and i guess i should make solat istikhara.. =)

"ya allah, sesungguhnya kau lebih tahu apa yang terbaik untukku.. =)"

p/s: ibu, dah tangok gambar bunga belom.? "blom lagi, dapat tengok anak ibu yang comel dan nakal dalam skype pon dah cukup.." hahahahahaha.. =)
